The constant lack in the numbers of, Mozambique’s casinos is in a sense rather puzzling, in one way or another.
In past years, the region was a destination where plenty of South Africans would go to to escape from the incredibly restrictive regulations on gambling (and, it has to be said, mixing with other races) that they had at home. For these reasons, you would expect something of an advancing area to serve that tourist business.
On the other hand, maybe it isn’t all that much of a bombshell. The country is undeniably the most destitute world wide, having gone through a horrible civil war (followed by damaging floods) from which it is still, very slowly, recovering. This can make a location way less of a tourist focal point, though there is now a flourishing view along a few of the city’s breathtaking beaches.
It is in addition true that regionally at the very least, casinos in Mozambique have had to encounter with many others in the freshly liberalized South Africa, including the prominent Sun City founded by the Kerzner family organization.
Here is a list of Mozambique’s casinos:
Maputo: Polana Casino Hotel
There are seventy-eight slot machines as well as video poker games, 5 tables of American roulette, 4 blackjack tables, in addition a poker table.
Namaacha: Sol Libombos Hotel Casino
There are 40 slot machines, American roulette, and two tables for poker as well as punto banco.
It is thought that over time the entire tourism industry in Mozambique will build productively. While the local languages are, naturally, African, there is added to that the remnant of Portuguese from the old colonial power and the current and developing emergence of English, both from South Africa and as part of the worldwide phenomenon. The country is quite cheap (naturally, as it is really poor) and as above, has some of the most attractive beaches worldwide, fronting onto the Indian Ocean. Those are the sorts of assets that make tourism agents drool, and as the country climbs out of its present slump, it is likely that not only will tourism expand, but that the list of casinos in Mozambique will grow longer for sure.
While the country is doubtful to ever reinstate its disposition as a focal point for partying South Africans, as there are now other options closer to home for them to indulge in, the elevation of a long distance tourism industry is being arranged. This would be to serve Europeans bargaining on winter sun, as a release from the dullness of the Northern Hemisphere winter. Plus, to top it off, the finest prawns (shrimp) on the planet are just offshore, in the Mozambique Channel.
