There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where casino gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling den, features 150 slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel complex that contains numerous comforts in addition to the casino, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
