There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall betting is not permitted. Eight casinos are based in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect spot, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge casino, contains 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga casino is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel building that contains many comforts in addition to the casino, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight table games.
