There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is not permitted. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, highlights 150 slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel complex that contains numerous comforts in addition to the gambling den, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
