There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gaming is banned. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that highlights many comforts aside from the gambling den, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
