There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is illegal. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many borders.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship casino, features 150 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that features numerous amenities on top of the gambling den, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
